Wow what an experience... my first 24hr event
Tim and I arrived into Canberra on the Friday and met up with JK and AJ at the airport, hired a couple of cars and headed outo to Mt Stromlo to build our bikes and relax for the night.
When we arrived Paul and Drew had set up great camp with a marquee and kitchen supplies, bedding etc, oh and a heater - which we needed (boy it gets cold at night in Canberra - well anytime in Canberra I think!) We headed out for dinner at Debarcle a great cafe, wine, beer bar in Canberra had a few pizzas and enjoyed a beer before heading back to camp.
On Saturday morning Pete Creagh team manager and Geoff Timberlake joined us (Geoff the greatest mechanic - thanks Geoff your the best!) Pete brought our new team kits - it was like christmas, the new kits look awesome - will post some photos soon.
On Saturday morning a few of us were listed to race in the Prologue a fast TT lap on the red lap. (the 24 hr has a red lap and a blue lap and each team or individual has to alternate between the two) I managed to place 2nd in the prologue - damn!! by 5sec!! I think because I missed the 'A' line! my fault, Zoe King won this and had a great ride.
The Merida Flight Centre team entered 2 teams - the Merida Flight Centre 96's (our team of 6 mixed - Dave Whitney, James Peacock, Drew Robinson, James Kennedy, Craig Peacock and myself) and a team of the 4 Men in the Pro category (Adrian Jackson, Paul Traynor, Nick Both and Tim Bennett)

We had a great race and won in 32 laps (thanks to Dave who blasted out two laps at the end to bring us home) The boys had a few mishaps at the start of the race but plugged away to finish in 3rd.
All in all it was a great weekend, anyone thinking of doing a 24hr race (in a team) I highly reccommend it. Anyone crazy enough to do it solo, well this is a great course and event to pick.
A huge thanks to Geoff and Pete who made the weekend so enjoyable and to all the guys in the Merida FC team who also made the weekend alot of fun!
Next on the calendar is the Croc trophy - the website is http://www.crocodile-trophy.com/ stay tuned for some updates
Jo :)
